Shot putter Mark Edwards suspended by UK Anti-Doping

Shot putter Mark Edwards has been provisionally suspended from all competitions by UK Anti-Doping after failing a drugs test.

He has been charged with committing violations of the UK Athletics anti-doping rules.

The 36-year-old was ranked number two in Britain last year.

He has the opportunity to respond to the charges against him and to have those charges determined at a full National Anti-Doping Panel hearing.

A statement on the UK Athletics website added: "He is presumed innocent unless and until the charges brought against him have been upheld.

"UK Anti-Doping is the national anti-doping organisation for the UK and has responsibility for the management of results and prosecution of disciplinary proceedings brought under the anti-doping rules of UK Athletics."

Edwards, who won the national indoor shot put title last year, missed out on a place in the Great Britain team for both the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and the 2008 Beijing Games.
